I am a member of a book group on Facebook, and that's where I get a lot of book recommendations. Someone posted and said that they'd never read a book that actually made them vomit until they read this one. Like an idiot I said, "Ooh I wanna read that." Since the Facebook group is primarily for Romance/erotica books and novels I just kind of assumed this was a dark romance. I'd read those before and while they could get very dark I overall enjoyed the read. THIS however. . . is NOT romance. I was blown away. Did I cry? Yep. A lot. Did I vomit? I'll admit that yes I absolutely did. Did I stop reading at one point and look at the people sitting around me and actually wonder "How are you people living your lives normally while this story is playing out for me?!?! How could you?!" Definitely. This was one of those books that I finished and immediately wondered what I was going to do with the rest of my life. There's a sequel. I don't know if I'm ready for it yet. I definitely want to read it and hope that it answers some questions that readers are left with after this one ended.

Held eBook Kimberly A Bettes Reviews
I read the thing in one sitting so she's very capable keeping your fixated but at the same time the writing style is very simple, almost too simple at times. (It could be a meta joke though, I'm not sure.) Early in the story another of the man's victim's abruptly appears and has a screaming, kicking fight before being dragged off. This scene comes and goes to with such simple language that I wondered if any of the horrors to ensue would have any impact. As the story goes on the atrocities can be felt even without the author being particularly descriptive.
The character remains remarkably flippant through her ordeal. So some hideous scene actually manage to have a bizarre comedic side. I spent a fair amount of time yelling at the protagonist for missing obvious chances or needlessly provoking her captor.
So surmise, it's okay. Its straightforward and short. If you're in the market for some abduction horror, you'll get that. Occasionally succeeded at turning my stomach and then it ended.
I was impressed with the level of disturbing details in this book. I cringed here and there at some of the horrible things the victims endured. The characters are believable and the main characters are well developed. I didn't mind the way it ended and it seems that many people hated the way it ended. Ron is a true delusional psycho. He twists every situation and conversation to fit into how he thinks he has been wronged. Nicole is also solid character. She is a strong-willed person who does what she has to do to cope with her situation. This book is mostly violence and gore. It includes numerous rapes, beatings and mutilations and can be very disturbing to sensitive readers.
A dark read. Cleverly and extremely descriptive look into the life of Ron a psychopath serial killer and his victim Nicole.
Ron aspires to be a writer, his first book was a failure. Determined to make his next novel a hit, he takes his research seriously. He kidnaps his characters he writes about, tortures them, to see just what the human body can endure, and kills them (The scenes are graphic and not for the faint of heart). Every girl he kidnaps except Nicole.
He wants Nicole to help him make the book a success. He sees something different in her. Can Nicole use this to her advantage?
I felt the ending was rushed. I wish there was more detail, I don't want to give away any spoilers, just wish the author would have expanded more on the last two chapters. That was my reasoning for 4 instead of 5 stars.
I look forward to reading the follow up to this nail biting psychological thriller.
It could have been a great book but it really fell short of the mark. Nicole Lee a young mother is abducted in broad daylight and is kept captive by Ron, a sadistic psychotic killer. This is enough to scare you senseless. However, the author does not give us an in-depth vision of the psyche of this vicious torturer. What she does is gives us is a depiction of the most brutal and sick descriptions of utter violence which escalates with every incident. Every time Ron brings Nicole to witness more punishment on his captives, the atrocities are more and more gruesome in nature....
Nicole who witnesses these depraved acts, comments on Ron's culinary talents, saying she never ate such good eggs and even states that he could be such a great husband if he did not brutally torture his victims...... I just don't get it. Yes many serial killers like Ted Bundy used their charm to capture their victims, but this trait in the novel was badly exploited. What was realistic though, was that "Ron could go from being "a somewhat caring" person to a frenzied brutal individual in a matter of seconds.
I had read RAGE by the same author and I loved that novel. It also depicted acts of cruelty, but it was not in a depraved graphic way.
The ending which was far too abrupt could have been better exploited. I don't want to give the ending away that part of the storyline should have been more detailed. The ending could easily have been very scary indeed. Too bad it was not developed.
